Cold in Capri

COLD IN CAPRI

We have been lucky enough to visit Capri quite a few times over the years, but never, ever, have we experienced cold weather here.  Talking about the weather feels like a broken record already!  Europe has been stricken with very cold weather for the past month and we have experienced it all - in London and France, but how crazy that it should be as far South as Capri?!

So ... what to do.... blog a little I think!  This family owned hotel has been our home away from home in Capri for many years.  We have got to know the family members really well and enjoy the warmest of greetings each time we return.

Today, in order not to break ritual with the past we changed rooms!   I have somewhat earned myself a reputation of being called "Mrs Change" ... I just cant help myself..!  Each room in this hotel has it's own charm  with individual redeeming features.  We never really know where we are going to end up until the door is unlocked for us to enter!  As we have stopped going every year,  we have rather lost the ability of specifying our room choice.

It was raining yesterday morning and I was in stealth mode...I couldn't resist peeping into a lovely room being cleaned!

The hotel was full last night - it seems there was a film crew staying and judging by those at breakfast,  I was in no doubt!... I suppose all film crew talk very loudly, wear hoodies and have cigarettes tucked behind their ears?!  Anyway - they all checked out this morning and how happy I was when I found out that the room I had fancied on yesterday's surreptitious tour was now available.

After hardly a knock on the door, there she stood - a huge smile on her face - "You Change" said the housekeeper,  standing in the doorway.  She knew and remembered from before  - Signora 'Change'  was at it again.  Her arms full of clothes, she flew down the stairs, her clicking heels drumming up a pace of efficiency,  as we battled to keep up with her.  Suitcases were opened, stuff jammed into them and after 10 minutes,  we had a new home!

As it turned out,  today has been very cold and wet and the bigger room has been very comfortable!

We usually eat our lunch by the pool as we did yesterday.  Lunch today was inside - a delicious swordfish and salad.

I have just uploaded pics from my new camera for the first time - am very nervous of this new camera as it is far more complicated than my previous one.  I played with the zoom too

Because of this..

I love these wallpapered cupboard doors

I hope to be able to post about a warm and sunny  Capri before long.. apparently the weather is going to improve the day after next :(

  1. I always did want to go to Capri when it had a different climate funny enough. Is the mood still the same though without the sun? The hotel looks lovely, I have only stayed at anacapri as I like the option of going in and out of town. But the food looks so amazing. I love the food south of Rome. Good zoom work Signora cambio la camera! ( did you see what i did there? hehe) xx

    1. Thanks Naomi!! On my first visit to Capri ... I imagined living here... I was completely enthralled by the place. The mood is so completely different in the cold weather. The streets were empty tonight ... people wrapped up and huddling along... no promenading, in fact, no beautiful people... there have apparently been suicides here during winter ... and I can understand why now! Dont know what you mean by 'did you see what I did there..." ?? xx

    2. Oh I was being silly - la camera in italian is "room" and you changed your room and you changed your camera... I bombed in fact, when one has to explain a joke then I failed;) My humor is not working out today!

    1. The food here is really good... we had dinner tonight at Villa Verdi - an old favourite with stars past and present.. such a well run establishment. I had an octopus salad which was too wonderful.. The restaurant is big and it was completely full... and with mainly Italians who made lots of noise!... separate tables for the kids who all had ipads!! So nice to hear from you on the blog! ... Thanks very much xxx

    1. You would have been in hysterics! Last night, walking up to the restaurant for dinner, it felt like the middle of winter. The streets, usually full of people and busy were empty... our dinner last night was delicious - I had a grilled octopus and fennel salad which was delicious! xx

  7. Oh dear to the weather - hopefully the sun will shine soon. I really can't believe how cold it is in Europe... but then again they've just announced we've had the warmest Autumn on record here, and the warmest May ever. Not surprising when we had temps up to 32C. Your new camera is taking lovely photos, and the hotel looks quite charming Mrs Change! xx

    1. Thank you Heidi..I've been getting messages from back home about the lingering autumn - and as you say - it's been warmer there than over here!... quite bizarre! It is 6.00am here and the sky is clear.. but the weather forecast says more rain!.. oh well...

  10. We enjoyed a short visit to Capri a few years ago and your gorgeous photos reminded me just how beautiful this island is and we really should return one day. Your new camera is certainly taking some lovely pictures (with your help of course!) and the swordfish is making my mouth water! We have warm sunshine here at last - I hope the sun has come out for you too.

    1. Thank you ! Nothing ever changes on Capri.. I think that this is why we loving returning every few years! Walking through the streets, recognising faces just a little older - this makes it a sentimental experience! I am so glad that the warm weather has at last made an appearance in the UK... long may it last! xx
