A visit to Bowral for the day - and new house updates!

BUILDING UPDATES!

I have been very quiet on the blogging front!  We have not had the internet for over a week!!!.... Bigpond have almost driven Mr R-I to a mental asylum!  I have been using my iphone as a 'hotspot' which is not really reliable and anyone who blogs will know that reliable internet is essential when uploading photos!

Anyway - we spent the day in Bowral on Tuesday.   I was delighted with the progress of the house as the roof installation is almost complete!  It's amazing how quickly the roof goes on, once all the box-guttering/flashing etc, is completed.

It had been raining in Bowral and the site was very wet and soggy.  The good thing about having the roof on is that it allows for work to continue inside in all weather.   Some friends popped in as well to see the progress and we had lunch afterwards at our favourite cafe.

I have also decided on the floor finishes!  Taking a leap of faith and using tiles in the gallery - which is a 2m wide passage, glass doors on either end,   linking the bedroom area and the kitchen.  It has large windows facing the courtyard and I thought tiles here would be great!  I am using timber and sisal carpet everywhere else - Timber in the kitchen/living and butlers pantry ( except there's no butler!).

Looking at the back garden from the south facing verandah off the gallery.  That large tree is a Ginko Biloba.  The pool is on the left.  There will be a level change and I plan to contain the levels with knee-high stone wall.

Looking back at the courtyard off the gallery and between the kitchen/living and the bedroom wing.

The wide street

The living room - impossible to see this room as it's a complete mess at the moment!

Looking across the courtyard from a kitchen bi-fold window - not the size seen here as it is above bench height.

I am hoping that photos from now on will be a little more interesting!  Have a great weekend!

  1. I am GREEN with envy. Still no roof here - we've had high winds and rain all week, so no one will go up there (fair enough, but irritating nonetheless). Love your tile choices, I think your kitchen will look stunning. Love the little cupola, the house is looking so good. I'm very excited to see photos of your progress at long last.

If you're having problems with Telstra, lodge an ombudsman complaint - you get your problem elevated very quickly and sorted out. I wasted hours on the phone to them in Melbourne once when we had a problem - literally, it was around 15 hours of phone calls to them over a few weeks, with no resolution in sight. Ombudsman complaint and it was sorted out the next day. Amazing......! xx

  2. I can just imagine how irritated you are by the lack of progress regarding the roof. I also love the cupola...it's so cute!! I have just lodged a complaint with an Ombudsman - I am hoping the same response will come my way!. Telstra/Bigpond's Complaints department should be re-named Customer Torture department! xx

    1. Thank you and Heidi for loving the tile choices!... The slow internet is definitely torturous and especially when one can do NOTHING about it!!! Hang in there - very impressed that you have done this on your own! Naomi!! xx

  4. Love it all. Thanks so much for sharing the photos. I've been wondering what you decided with the floor. Beautiful tiles for the gallery and I love the roof line with the differing pitches. Bonita xx

  5. The house is taking shape! I love to watch the development of a property from start to finish - fascinating. Those floor tiles are beautiful - the colour and pattern are both a great choice.

  6. So fantastic to finally see pictures of the house after hearing about it in theory. I love the back courtyard, and remember that Ginko tree very well. And the Cupola is adorable. Very excited to see more soon, online and in person. xx

  7. Love all the house photos. The tiles are lovely and how cute is the cupola?

Glad it is all going well. The roof would have been a welcome addition.

    1. Thanks FW! It was wonderful seeing the roof go on eventually - like Heidi, we were a few weeks behind because of the rain. xx

    1. So glad you love the tiles.. they were my first choice months ago - and then there were many others, but I returned back to my original choice! I'm sure that the lovely summer makes it hard to focus on the renovations as the temptation to just enjoy your wonderful garden must be too great! I love the roses you have chosen! xx

    1. We are so lucky having the loveliest neighbours! Nothing is a problem and they are so complimentary about our building team. We will be able to reciprocate next year as they are re-building their house too! Thanks for stopping by! Jenny

  10. What you're saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I'm sure you'll reach so many people with what you've got to say.
